PRESIDENT OF THE CNBV

Dr. Guillermo Babatz Torres

 

Dr. Babatz is a PhD in Economics from Harvard University and BA in Economics from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM).

 

He is currently President of the National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV), which oversees and regulates the entities within the financial system, in order to ensure stability and proper operation and to maintain and promote healthy and balanced development of the financial system as a whole to protect the public’s interest.

 

Prior to this position, he was Director General of the Federal Mortgage Society, Development Banking Institution with a mandate to promote the development of primary and secondary markets for mortgage credit.

 

He also served as Director of Domestic Credit to the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), with the responsibility for the issuance and administration programs of the Federal Government domestic public debt and the development of domestic debt market.

 

Also in the SHCP, he served as Director General of Insurance and Securities, with the main function to perform the activities of the Secretariat on the regulation and promotion of the securities market and insurance market. In this responsibility he served as a leader in the draft amendment to the Securities Market Act (LMV) and the Mutual Fund Act (LSI) of 2001.

December 1999 Banamex National Prize for Economics 1999, 2nd place (Research).


December 1993 Banamex National Prize for Economics 1993, 1st place (Thesis).


December 1991 graduated from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México with a Bachelors in Economics with honors.
